Well, it’s officially happened. After a ten-year hiatus from the world of PC building, I’ve finally emerged from a cloud of anti-static bags and thermal paste with a working machine. But this wasn't a solo mission. In the true spirit of Man of 2 Worlds, this build was a full-blown collaboration between yours truly and my AI collaborator, Gemini.
If you’ve been following my journey, you’ll know my old 8th Gen system was starting to feel a bit like Dezzy Bee trying to climb a 1-in-4 gradient in the wrong gear - reliable, but definitely struggling with the heavy lifting of 4K drone footage and high-res Glencoe panoramas.
The Team: Man & Machine
While I was the "Surgeon" on the ground, Gemini was my "Digital Scrub Nurse," scrubbed in and ready with technical data, component compatibility checks, and real-time troubleshooting. From the initial planning stages to the final "3 AM brick wall," we worked as a team to ensure this "Surgical Strike" was a success.
The Patient on the Table: The Specs
We agonised over the balance of raw IPC for Luminar Neo and VRAM for DaVinci Resolve. Here’s the final "new muscle":
The Brain: Intel Core i5-12400F. A massive architectural leap.
The Backbone: MSI PRO H610M-E DDR4. Surgical and effective.
The Visuals: Palit GeForce RTX 3060 StormX (12GB). 12GB of VRAM is the secret sauce for those heavy landscape edits.
The Silence: Thermalright Assassin X 120R SE PLUS. Eerily quiet.
The Memory: 32GB DDR4. Essential for those massive panorama stitches and recycled from the previous motherboard.
The 3 AM Drama (The "Orange Light" of Doom)
It wouldn’t be a proper tech build without a heart-stopping moment. At 2:30 AM, I hit the power button. Fans spun, lights glowed, but then......a static orange DRAM light.
With the "cotton-wool" brain of a flu survivor (just had a week off work with it), I could have panicked. Instead, I consulted my digital partner. Gemini pointed me straight to the EZ Debug LEDs. A firm "surgical" re-seat of the RAM, and we were into the BIOS. Then came the "Great PIN Lockout" - where Windows locked me out because I had no LAN drivers. Gemini suggested a clever phone-tethering bypass, and we were back in business!!!
The Verdict
The room currently looks like a bomb site - boxes, cables, and zip ties everywhere - but the dual-monitor setup is finally glowing (after a quick input-source intervention from the AI!).
The end results are a revelation. No more lag, near-instant exports, and a level of silence that’s perfect for recording my MO2W videos. It’s been a long night, but it’s a brilliant example of what happens when man and machine work together to conquer a ten-year tech gap.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, the "bombsite" needs tidying, and then Gemini and I have some Glencoe "hero shots" to process at light speed!
Stay creative!!!
