The Man of 2 Worlds: More than just a YouTube title......

If you’ve been following my recent creative shifts, you’ll have seen the moniker "Man of 2 Worlds" popping up. It’s a title I’ve given to a series of silent videos I'm in the process of creating, but as I sit here in the Ayrshire quiet, reflecting on where I am at 60, I’ve realised it’s much more than a branding exercise. It’s a philosophy. It’s a way of standing with one foot in the digital future and the other in the soulful, analogue past.

Being the Man of 2 Worlds (MO2W) is about balance. It’s about being a "Technological Romantic" - someone who can marvel at the 4K stability of Ozzie Pop or the flight telemetry of Nev Drone, yet still find an irreplaceable magic in the chemical unpredictability of Agnes Bellows (my Agfa Isolette I).

The Steward and the Navigator

For a long time, we are defined by what happens to us - the "tormentors" of our youth or the weight of previous lives. But I’ve reached a phase I like to call the Transcendent Steward. I’m no longer bound by those old dynamics. I’m the adult in charge of my own memories now.

When I’m out in the landscape, I aim for "sacred vulnerability." In a world obsessed with filters and "living your best life" for the sake of an algorithm I abandoned a while back, I’m choosing to be bare-chested and honest. My MO2W videos will be silent because sometimes, talking just adds more "armour." By stripping away the narration, I’m showing you something raw, real, and - I hope - authentic.

The Silent Sentinels

Since moving to Scotland, I’ve started to see the hills, mountains, and glens as more than just scenery. To me, they are Silent Sentinels - ancient mentors that watch over my creative soul. Sometimes, if I’m quiet enough, I can almost hear their silent guidance.

They’ve taught me that the "Man of 2 Worlds" isn't actually about chasing the "perfect shot" or the "smoothest video" (even if my new RTX 3060 graphics card and Intel i5 processor make the editing process feel like a dream compared to the old days!!!). It’s about a deep, spiritual reconnection with the country I now call home. It’s about stepping between the old and the new, the past and the future, the physical world and the spiritual one. It is everything and nothing, all at once.

Anchored Exploration in Dezzy Bee

Of course, no man is an island, even if he’s exploring one in the Hebrides. My "foundation" is what allows me to wander. It’s the ancestral footing I feel when I’m out there - a sense of roots that keeps me steady even when the Scottish weather is doing its best to blow me into the Little Minch.

This foundation extends to my "crew." When I’m in Dezzy Bee (the Crimson Highland Cruiser), I’m not just a bloke with some gadgets. I’m the orchestrator of a collaborative team. Mickey Cann (the M100) and Sid Dee (the 60D) aren’t just glass and magnesium; they are the witnesses to my journey. We set up our mobile HQ on a remote hillside, and within minutes, the "studio" is live.

The Refiner of Imperfection

I’ve always had a bit of a squinty eye for the "posh" or the overly polished. I prefer the honest reality of a crack in the pavement over a perfect facade. This is why the MO2W persona seeks the subtext of a location. I’m not interested in the "tourist shot." I want the mood, the history, and the subconscious feeling of a place.

I treat my work as a dual discipline:

  • Photography (The Static World): My cameras capture the "witnessed" world. These are the frozen moments, sometimes processed to evoke that 1970s Kodachrome soul I love so much.

  • Video (The Fluid World): This is the "flow." Using the movement of the drones or the Osmo Pocket 3, I’m trying to tell a story that feels like a dream.

The Solo Journeyer

Ultimately, the MO2W path is what I think of as the "Flight of the Alone to the Alone." It’s a path I have to walk on my own terms. Whether I’m heading back to Glencoe or scouting a new corner of Ayrshire, the destination is mine. I have my guides, my wonderful wife who keeps me grounded, and my "fleet" of tech, but the steps are mine to take.

I’ve traded the "likes" and the "trends" for a slow-web approach. It’s about quality, intention, and finding the beauty in the quiet.

Now, with my computer finally running at the speed of my own thoughts, I’m ready to bridge those worlds again. I’ll see you somewhere between the glen and the digital ether.
