Stepping Out into the Sunshine: Three Weeks Off Social Media and Feeling Fantastic!!!

Well, it’s been three weeks now since I decided to step away from social media, and honestly, the change has been nothing short of transformative. I wanted to share a little update because, quite frankly, I feel like a different person – and a much better one at that!!!

When I made the decision, I knew I needed a break, but I don't think I fully grasped the depth of the positive impact it would have. On psychological, emotional, and even practical levels, this move is yielding some truly wonderful results.

One of the first things I noticed was a real shift in my motivation. Suddenly, those interests I’d been putting off felt exciting again. I’m no longer battling that underlying current of anger, irritation, or frustration that seemed to accompany my scrolling days. It’s like a constant low hum of negativity has just… vanished. Instead, I'm finding myself far more focused on so many other things in my life, actually doing more and, crucially, getting more things done!!!

My sleep has improved dramatically, which is a massive bonus. And perhaps most importantly, my thought processes feel much clearer, less jumbled, and wonderfully less negative. It’s as if a perpetual mental fog has lifted, allowing for genuine headspace for the things that truly matter. I even feel physically better, which was an unexpected but very welcome side effect.

That infamous FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) was an interesting beast. It was quite a strong feeling for about three or four days, almost like a nagging itch, but then, poof! It just went. Completely gone. Now, my mind feels so much less cluttered and bogged down, freeing up space for creativity and genuine connection.

And what am I doing with all this new-found energy and clarity? Well, I’m writing blogs (like this one!), building websites, and planning some truly exciting photography adventures right here in my beautiful home country of Scotland. The studio is alive with music again, I'm reading more, learning more (and doing so with a newfound enthusiasm!), and actually getting those long-standing tasks done around the home.

Looking back, I honestly wish I had realised the dreadful impact of social media sooner. But dwelling on that isn't my style. Instead, I’m just savouring this incredible feeling. It’s exactly like I’ve walked out into the glorious sunshine after what felt like far too long a period of rainy, cloudy skies. And it feels absolutely fantastic.

If you’ve been contemplating a similar break, I can wholeheartedly say, from my own experience, that it might just be one of the best decisions you make.
